About SCSHP

SCSHP was founded in 1958 and has continued the tradition of providing education, resources and networking opportunities for health-system pharmacists, technicians, residents and students,  SCSHP is a state affiliate of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.  SCSHP currently focuses most of its activity on membership recruitment and retention, providing quality continuing education, and providing opportunities for members to improve their skills and leadership areas.

This year, SCSHP identified the need to become a champion for patient safety in South Carolina.  The Society has traditionally played a defensive role with legislation regarding the profession of pharmacy except when the status of the technican has been concerned.  The Society introduced legislation (a first for SCSHP) this year, HB 3394, to require that all pharmacy technicians attend a nationally-recognized educational program, train under the supervision of a licensed pharmacists and pass a national certification exam, prior to working in a pharmacy.  The Society feels this is a necessary step to improve the safety of pharmacy for every person in the state.

The mission of the South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists is to support and promote safe and effective pharmacy care for every person in the state of South Carolina.
