Contrast Media: A Pharmacists' Perspective
Goal
The purpose of this continuing education module is to educate pharmacists about contrast media, including differences between agents and risk factors for and prevention of adverse events.
Learning Objectives
- List three classes of contrast agents and the imaging procedures for which they are used.
- Explain how each class of contrast agent functions to enhance the image that is produced.
- Describe how to manage the risk of adverse events for each of the classes of contrast agents.
- Describe areas in which pharmacist involvement can impact positively on medication safety as it relates to contrast media.
This program is sponsored by the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists. The Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Target audience

Program Description
The purpose of this continuing education module is to educate pharmacists on three classes of contrast agents that are commonly used in diagnostic imaging and procedure areas. These 3 classes are iodinated agents most commonly used in CT and fluoroscopic imaging, gadolinium-based agents most commonly used in MRI, and perfluorocarbon microspheres most commonly used in echocardiography. A case-based approach will be utilized
