Responsibilities of Junior Board Members

The overall purpose and mission of the Junior Board Member is to provide an increased representation of student members to the SCSHP Board of Directors. Key activities include communication between student members and Board, feedback to Board, input in all Board issues, development of society membership, membership regulation and input and recommendations based on member needs, desires and requests.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Attend at least 50% of scheduled Board Meetings. If absent, a summary report of Regional SCSHP activities shall be reported to the Board.

  2. Represent interests of student members at your campus to the Board.

  3. Provide feedback, input and insight into all Board matters

    1. Facilitate public relations, feedback and communications to and from student members.

    2. Facilitate transition into office for newly appointed Junior Board Member

  4. Encourage student involvement on SCSHP committees

  5. Report campus activities to the Board of Directors

TERM OF OFFICE: One (1) year


Become a Junior Board Member

Being a Junior Board Member (JBM) with the South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SCSHP) will be an invaluable experience to learn from and be mentored by pharmacy leaders. It will provide opportunities to strengthen leadership and communication skills, to network with Board members and pharmacists throughout the state, and to identify ways to make a difference within the profession.

Goals and objectives of the tenure of a JBM:

  • Integrate student leaders into the planning and execution of SCSHP events, meetings, and membership recruitment by having a presence on the SCSHP Board of Directors (BOD)

  • JBM will be mentored in various areas of leadership within the SCSHP BOD in order to further develop leadership skills

  • JBM will provide insight and innovation to enhance learning opportunities for students via meeting programming, provide initiative for membership retention after graduation, and encourage leadership at the state and national level, including political advocacy

  • JBM are required to attend live Board meetings (twice during term)and participate in conference calls (once monthly)

  • JBM will be assigned a project to work on throughout the year and will present project at respective schools of pharmacy, as well as at the spring meeting

The following criteria must be met in order to apply for a JBM position:

  • Pharmacy student in good academic standing of 2nd or 3rd professional year

  • Current member of local SSHP chapter and SCSHP

  • Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from a Pharmacist or Faculty member.

  • Please attach a statement of interest discussing why you would like to be a JBM with SCSHP and what you hope to accomplish during your term if chosen. Also include and briefly describe relevant work and leadership experience that you feel would make you a strong candidate for the position. (Maximum of 500 words)
